The University Proctoring Lab at UNCG can assist community members with non-UNCG test administrations, by request. We regularly proctor for other colleges and universities in coordination with their testing offices and instructors, and we are certified to proctor for ETS and College Board exams. We are also a member of the Meazure Learning testing network.

Parking and Navigating campus

Parking

We recommend test takers park on Oakland Ave (complementary street parking), if spots are available. There is also metered parking on Administration Dr., and for-pay parking in the Oakland Parking Deck. All are within reasonable walking distance of the Forney Building.

Navigating Campus

UNCG’s campus is accessible via Google Maps. If you search for “UNCG Forney Building”, you can get walking directions from your location to our building.

The front of the building faces College Avenue, and is accessible through a small set of stone stairs. The back of the building, facing the Nursing and Instructional Building, has a wheelchair-accessible ramp and powered door switches, if preferred or needed.

Once inside the Forney Student Success Commons, the UPL is located in Room 114 immediately in front of the reception desk. We have couches and chairs available in the lobby for folks who arrive early, and a break room with vending machines located on the 2nd floor (follow the signs).

Exam Administration

When you arrive to take your exam, you can expect the following process:

  1. A general announcement will be made in the lobby by UPL staff, prior to seating.
  2. You will be asked to stow your personal items—backpacks, purses, sunglasses, etc. Small lockers are available.
  3. The proctor will ask for your ID card.
    • Note: we must see an unexpired physical ID card. We do not accept photos of ID cards. If you don’t have an ID, we will not be able to seat you for your exam. Acceptable ID includes:
      • Your student ID card / SpartanCard
      • Your Driver’s license or State ID card
      • Your Military ID card (with photo)
      • Your passport
  4. The test rules will be explained to you, and you will be guided to an assigned testing station, where the test will be administered. You will be offered any materials allowed for your exam.
    • NOTE: the UPL has noise-cancelling headphones, foam earplugs, fidget toys, and other common test taking items available to lend to test takers. If you require something, please ask—we may just have it!
    • If you have any questions about your testing process, please ask at check-in or raise your hand after seating.
  5. During the test, your station will be monitored and UPL staff will regularly walk through the space. If you have any questions or issues, raise your hand to get the attention of the staff, who can assist you and document any concerns.
  6. Once you have completed your test, approach the proctor station for details on how to check out. The check-out process varies by test.
  7. You’ll then collect your items, return your locker key, and leave the UPL.

Late Arrival Policy

The UPL has a 10-minute grace period to minimize distractions to our test takers. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we reserve the right to cancel your appointment.

Non-UNCG Student Proctoring FAQs

UNCG students do not pay to take a UPL-proctored exam for their UNCG courses.

Students taking non-UNCG courses pay a seating fee of $15 per 60-minute block.

Contact the UPL at [email protected]. Be sure to include:

  • Your full name,
  • The name of the course and institution/college,
  • The length of time the test is, and
  • Some days/times when you are available to test.

The UPL is located in Room 114 in the Forney Building. Once you enter the building through the door facing College Ave., our lab is on the left.

If you are driving to campus and not familiar with the area, use Spartan Direction to access our location and generate directions.

Test takers not affiliated with UNCG may schedule between 60 days and 2 days before their requested testing time, by emailing the UPL at [email protected] with the day(s) and times they are available and information about the testing appointment they would like to schedule.

UNCG students can self-schedule a testing appointment between 60 days and 2 hours before the session start time.

Same-day scheduling will only be permitted if space is available and testing details are already on file.

You will need to bring a photo ID and, for computer-based tests, a device to use for multi-factor authentication (usually a cell phone).

You may also bring any items your instructor has specifically authorized us to allow in the testing environment.

We recommend leaving all other items at home. Any materials you do bring (jacket, bag, keys, etc.) will be stored in a 12″ x 12″ x 12″ locker outside the UPL, so please do not bring more items than will fit in your allotted space. Also please be aware that hoodies and oversized sweatshirts are not allowed in our space.

If there are any technical issues with your test taking, the UPL proctors will attempt to troubleshoot with you, and they will report any unresolvable issues to your faculty after the fact.

The UPL can provide many approved accommodations, such as extended time.

The UPLab is accessible to test takers who mobilize on wheels. Access the building through a ramp at the back door. There are several height-adjustable desks within the lab and many authorized accommodations are available.

Test takers can request noise-canceling and noise-buffering headphones when scheduling their appointment. ZoomText and other software is also installed for screen-reading and magnifying purposes.
